Grounds for Divorce?

Does your husband ever do something that drives you absolutely CRAZY?  I mean like, hit him in the face, MAD?

As you can imagine, Retro does this to me from time to time.  Sunday night was one of those times.  We've been married for 13 years & for all these years, after the children are in bed, he has watched TV in the living room & I watched in the bedroom.  Unless we're watching a movie or "something". Here lately, he has wanted to watch in the bed.  My area! And he watches the dumbest shows, like on History Channel, ESPN or heaven forbid, Sci-Fi.

I like to go to sleep around 10ish.  I like my room dark & quiet. And unless heavily medicated or intoxicated, I CAN NOT fall asleep if the television is on.  My husband, on the other hand, has no problem.

Sunday night, I was getting ready to fall asleep & he decides to come to bed & of course he channel-surfs & sees some Indiana Jones movie is coming on & he needs to watch it.  Remember it's around 10 pm.  And how long do movies usually last? About 2.5 hours. Right?  So I'm thinking surely he's not going to watch this whole movie.  Wrong.

The longer he watched, the madder I got; the madder I got, the longer he watched.  I went to sleep with Bo (he has my old mattress, so it's comfortable), but his heater was too loud.  I went to Sassy's room, but books covered my side of the bed.  I went to get on the couch & thought this was bull**it & he wasn't going to run me out of my bed.

During all this, while I'm in the bed, I catch him snoring & as soon as I turn the TV off, the SOB would wake up.  My blood pressure was boiling! I really could have hit him in the face.  Finally the damn show went off AT 12:30 AM.  And he turns the TV off, after some smart comment about watching ANOTHER Indiana Jones movie. And I don't even like Harrison Ford.  But I promise if this happens again, it's grounds for divorce.

I like to watch tv in bed too, but I always turn it off when Brad's ready to go to bed! He likes it quiet too. I, on the other hand, can sleep through Blair's monitor, the alarm, and whatever noise or lights you might bring my way! McCords are like that....

Oh.my.gosh. I totally had a come-to-Jesus talk w/my husband about this very thing a week ago. And yes, it is grounds for divorce.

I would have kicked him out and made him watch in the living room. I mean that was really just rude to keep you up like that.

Okay, so perhaps I can't give an unbiased opinion, but Dude is changing the rules without asking!

FWIW The Girl has my old mattress too and it's the most comfortable in the house. More often than not, I doze off tucking her in and The Boy has to come get me for his turn!

Definitely grounds for divorce! The TO pulls these types of stunts on me all the time, too.

I can't stand that either. My husband laughs when I say "no flashy shows" as I reluctantly turn over the remote at night. If lights start flashing in my bedroom when I'm trying to fall asleep, I'm shutting the tv down. I don't mind him watching something like a documentary about a hummingbird, but if the show has flashing light, music or loud noises, the TV is going off. It drives me nuts!!!

It is incredibly inconsiderate for someone to watch TV in the bedroom when someone else is trying to sleep. You need to sleep in your bed. He can watch TV elsewhere. Divorce may be a bit drastic. Next time, unplug the TV and THROW IT AT HIM. :)

Um YES! I cannot stand when people need the TV on to fall asleep. I can sleep with the light on (if I'm tired enough) but I can never sleep with the TV on. Definitely kick him or something next time! hahaha!

There was a point where my ex-husband (note EX) wanted to watch tv in bed, but was annoyed by my reading light next to my side of the bed. I took a ribbon and tied it to the headboard and ran it to the footboard dividing our bed in half. I told him to do what he wanted on his side and I would do what I wanted on my side. Under no circumstances was he to cross over to my side. Guess who stopped watching tv in bed?

I had one of these last night! Hubs sleeps with a CPAP machine but lately since I've been taking sleeping aids and usually fall asleep before him he hasn't been using it which means he snores. Last night we were attempting to sleep at the same time and I must have asked him 5 times to put the thing on, slept terribly, woke up and asked him to put it on, slept terribly, asked him to put it on and finally the baby woke up and I got a couple hours of nice sleep. The nightmares I've been having + the snoring were just too much!

We have the same issue. Plus, I'm a light sleeper, so any noise will wake me up. Recently I've taken to moving into the guest room because he is snoring so loudly. he started to complain that I was leaving, and that it was hurting his feelings. I explained that his feelings will be even further damaged if he has a sleep deprived wife. Plus, as I'm sure you can agree, the longer I sit there not sleeping listening to the TV and/or snoring the madder I get. I get irrational. That's never good!

Seriously sounds like you are talking about MY HOUSE! Exactly! And my hubs just started thinking he could take over the bed lately too. WTF!?? I am going to punch him on principal now since you suggested it.

See, you were wayyyy too nice! I would have turned the tv off and told his ass to either get out or go to bed =P

Too funny!! New follower ;)

He shouldn't mess with your routine! Or your sleep.

Ah gees! My husband will get in my area too. Except mine is the family room. And the crap he likes to pull is being super talkative during a show that is new that night. Hello! Wait til the commercials at least. And yeah when he watches stuff it is usually stuff I could care less about. *sigh* Men!

Ummm so maybe we are married to the same man. Which could be a whole other post! We have the same problem. I never ever watch TV in bed and my hubs always does to fall asleep. Fortunately I usually go to bed waaaaayy after he has fallen asleep. If not I HAVE to kick him out no matter how comfy he is!!!

You provide him with wireless headphones, he gives you a sleep mask :) Unless he starts laughing or something, then TV OFF! Good luck with that one.
