Oh & spoiler alert, there will be some more fair pictures & other scrapbook-worthy posts coming up. I know y'all just can't wait.
Wednesday was one of the Semi-Slacker's 27 visits to the fair. Retro & I surprised the bigs up after school & taking them to "ride hell". We were in the parking lot before they even said anything. They must have thought I was just going in to get a cinnamon roll. Plus they thought we had plans (we did, but they got postponed) so they were a little confused.
So what does all this have to do with goldfish? Really? You know I have to make a short story long.
After riding the rides
Meet Fred (Bo's) & Stripey (Sassy's)
That's goldfish & home, but no food. They made it through the night
Goldfish at Petsmart cost 27 cents. So I got 6, so everyone would have one plus a backup. And the cheapest "fish home", cause they're not bowls anymore, was over $5, so see, I got a deal at the fair. We already had plenty of "fish homes" from our last fish encounter with Betas, so I just got the fish & some food.
Okay so now today is what? Monday & guess how many fish we have now. ONE! It may be Stripey, but I can't promise. I know it's not Fred because Fred was dead by Friday. We lost Baby Girl's Petsmart two on Saturday. One of Sass's last night, she had a service for him/her/it in the powder room & I flushed #5 this morning.
Good thing they didn't get too attached.
Next time, we'll stick with the Betas.

Oh dear - I find fish are hit or miss - sometimes they die right away and sometimes they live for years!
How about a hermit crab?
Those babies can live for years!
We went through SO MANY goldfish before we finally figured out that they simply cannot live. The stupid things kept playing around the suction pipe that leads to the filter and getting sucked up. Dumb fish.
Our fish died left and right too. We decided it would be safer to adopt the fire ants in the yard since no amount of poison can get rid of them!
I have to say... I kept a Fair fish alive for over 3 years. It was epic. haha! I've always wanted to use that word.
He was joined by 1 more fair fish the year he died (2 years ago) and he is still alive. They are Hank's girlfriends fish. They mine died and I was kidding around with her and said her's was lonely- came home the next day and there were two more itty bitty goldfish. All three are still kicking.
I have mine in a 29 gallon tank with circulation- I think that has something to do with it! (:
I don't have the tank just for them... I use to have all those fancy fish and they all died when I went to college.
I'm missed your posts and witty humour .. I've missed you in BlogLand!!!
That is good that the children did not get attached ... You would be on the next bus/train/plane to Canada I'm sure and its way cold here!!!
If you have a chance pop on over for a visit ... I'm trying to set up a Blog Pen Pal club ... I think it will be fun for all.. I few people have already sent in to participate... XO HHL
That is great that they didn't get too attached. That would have been really hard. Good Luck on your early as hell field trip to GA. I will be sleeping in my comfy bed :)Wait, no our lil one will probably wake up super early since I just said that. Darn it, ummm nevermind scratch that... Have fun!!!
Hey...Tracy...you should read my post on f/b. My sister carried Braeden to the fair with her girls. I usually avoid the "Goldfish games", however, uncles and aunts aren't quite so accomodating. Braeden came strolling in that night with TWO goldfish. We went to Petsmart the next day and bought all the fixings....one fish was dead before nightfall. I saw the 27cent gold fish, but they also have smaller ones for 13 cents. I guess we can replenish them weekly...lol. Mitzi Mc
That's funny! Before you said that you were down to 1 fish, I was going to say, "How many times did you have to flush this weekend?"....so sorry for your
loss(es)!
Honey you are hysterical!! Love your stories. Xoxo
I have some tadpoles and a hermit crab you can have (for free!)
I hate dealing with fish. And I don't know how they know who is who, but they always do!
Wow, that was really fast! I think we'll stay away from all animals, even fish.
Tracey,
Haven't been by here in a while - you've spruced up! Love it! And, you're still crackin' me up...
See you soon,
Kate
So funny, we were just talking about how GG will probably want a goldfish when she's old enough to talk since she adores Elmo and Elmo has Dorothy the goldfish! Anyway, I knew they had short live spans but not this short, crazy! Haven't been to the fair here since we moved to Mobile, but your love for it is making me want to go! Have a great week!
I had a beta that lived for a year. Then, we moved and without thinking I put the fishbowl in the window thinking sunlight might be nice. It was dead when I got home.
Now I have a hermit crab that won't die.
Fish homes? Are you kidding me?!
I'll have to tell my hubby your story. He wants to buy fish for our two year old but I'm against it. I hate how dirty the water gets. blah!
You are so funny!!! I always LOVE winning those silly goldfish!
