It's Saturday night & guess where I am

Baby Girl & I are at our local children's hospital.  If you'll remember, weekend before last she got really sick due to a chronic UTI (urinary tract infection) due to her renal reflex.  Vomiting, high fever, etc. so she got a shot & some meds & she was good to go.

Well yesterday, she was a little grumpy & fell asleep during the day, so I left her with the housekeeper to go pick up the others from school.  When I get home, she has puked all over Retro's Lazy-Boy & was laying on the bathroom floor asleep on Lucy's lap.  with a fever.

I called the nurse/my friend, Rosemary & put her in a cool bath & gave her some meds.  She started feeling better, like back to normal.   Around 11 pm she got sick again, I gave her another Zofran & she fell asleep & woke up around 1:30 ready to play.

Then around 3:15 am, I hear this thump & y'all know she's sleeping in my bathroom on the crib mattress, so I go to check on her & she is face down on the floor. I pick her up & her eyes rolled back in her head.  I scream for Retro & he FREAKS out.  Like I have never seen before.  For some reason I remained rather calm, but he thought we were going to lose her.  We get her in the tub, clothes & all, & drench her with cold water.  We finally get her to response, a little.  Then she vomited again.  I'm on the phone with 911 & he still freaking out, calls his dad (who lives next door). The both of them were dressed & gone before I could even take a Xanax.  10+ minutes later, the ambulance shows up. (we do live in the country) I told them they were long gone.  My parents pick me up & take me to the ER & my MIL stayed with the other children.

Turns out she had a fibrile seizure.  Scared me to death.  I don't know how many with children that have these often deal.  There's not enough Xanax at CVS.  Our experience in the ER was the best one I've ever had.  And luckily, Dr. K was on call.

So we've been here all day & they are still trying to get her fever & infection under control.  I'm on my 3rd Co-Cola & 4th Xanax.  They should really serve cocktails here.  I wonder if there's a suggestion box anywhere.

*On a more positive note,  McDonald's has the best Happy Meal containers ever right now.  It's a Mr. Potato Head  Halloween pail.  Cute, cute, cute!

*And the last goldfish bite the dust.  Ashes to Ashes, dust to dust, now it's time for us to flush.

I am in tears, and I know you are exhausted. Both of mine run around 105 degress when they are sick, but thank goodness no seizures. We are praying for all of you!!

Seizures are about the scariest thing ever!! My oldest daughter had "seizure like activity" (that's how they described it) from dehydration one time (last year I think?) and it scared the piss out of me. You're right, not enough xanax (or in my case, Ativan!) in the world! I remember the eyes rolling back, etc...omg, it was awful! I hope they get your baby all straight asap!

I have had you on my mind ever since we spoke Saturday. I know you've had plenty of offers, but know that I will do whatever I need to in order to help you out. There is nothing worse than a little one in the children's hospital. Bless her heart....I can't imagine the seizures...yes, Daddy's do tend to freak out and the Mama's always stay calm. On a lighter note...our fair fish all bit the dust as well and now we have four healthy larger ones from Petsmart...wonder how long they'll last. Mitzi Mc

Hello...prayers that Baby Girl gets better real soon. It is so hard when they are int he hospital..

My son had a seizure from a high fever just he was 10 mos old. We were scared to death & he was swallowing his tongue & turned blue. I thought he choked on something...We had been out to Longwood Gardens and I thought his red face was from the sun...not a fever! (Glad your mil ws there too!)My hubby's aunt lived across the street, an emt, & then the police drove us to the hospital. The dr called it a convulsion...my son is now 32...
Cocktails at the hospital..I think you're on to something! :) Jennifer

Oh my goodness! You must have been scared to death. I had chills just reading about it. Sounds like you have a great Dr. there. I hope she is better very soon. Poor thing. Prayers are coming your way.

And, yes, they should have cocktails @ the ER.

Man, that sounds like the scariest thing ever. My stepdad was a firefighter and he said if you have a medical emergency it is always quicker to go straight to the ER so Retro and his dad did the right thing. I hope they can get her infection under control soon.

Look at you! Under this tremendous amount of stress, and still you have a terrific sense of humour.
Well I'm thinking of you guys. I'm not sure I would be a very good nurse to your daughter ('cause I suck at my skills!) but I'd sit with you and gossip! I know those McDonald's Happy Meal pails are the cutest!
Take care girlie!
