Waiting for Hot Chocolate weather

My amazing BF at High-Heeled Life loves some chocolate, so every Thursday she has a chocolate post.  This week she decided to let everyone link up.

I'm not a big coffee drinker, but I love hot chocolate.Swiss Miss version or the Hot Cocoa cups for my Keurig coffee maker, this came in the mail...

While I wish trying to think of my favorite hot chocolate recipe, all I could come up with was the

It was a sign that I must share.  I haven't tried this, but it sounds yummy!  I love to read cookbooks.  I collect them, but rarely use them to cook.

Hot Mudslide (picture above)

1 cup unsweetened cocoa
1 cup sugar
2 cups half & half
6 cups milk
4 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 cup Kahlua
1/2 cup Bailey's Irish Creme
1/4 cup vodka *optional
Sweetened whipped cream
Chocolate syrup

Whisk together first 3 ingredients in a large saucepan.  Cook, whisking constantly, over medium heat until sugar melts.Whisk in milk; over medium-high, whisking constantly until very hot. (not boiling) Whisk in vanilla & liquors.

Pour chocolate mixture into mugs; top with whipped cream & drizzle with chocolate syrup.

Now this is one I have made & it's yummy.  And not too time consuming.

Candy Cane Cocoa
4 cups milk
3 (1 ounce) squares semisweet chocolate, chopped (I use milk chocolate)
4 peppermint candy canes, crushed (I use the little ones)
1 cup whipped cream
4 peppermint candy canes (the big ones, here)

In a saucepan, heat milk until hot, but not boiling. Whisk in the chocolate and the crushed peppermint candies until melted and smooth. Pour hot cocoa into four mugs, and garnish with whipped cream. Serve each with a candy cane stirring stick.

Question: Do you say hot chocolate or cocoa?

Is vodka ever really optional? Really?

Love those recipes.. Hot Mudslide sounds delish!! I say hot chocolate and my little monster says hot cocoa... He was so excited when we found that Dryers has a Hot Cocoa flavored ice cream out right now.

Someone - maybe P-dub? - had a recipe the other day for Hot Chocolate cookies. Seriously. In addition to a few other ingredients it called for four packs of hot cocoa mix. Thanks for reminding me - I think I'll be making some this weekend!

Hot chocolate! I'm copying that second recipe down - and taking it to my mama to make me because... Well... I have no intentions of trying!

Oh. Hot chocolate is one of the best things ever. Best one I ever had was in this bistro across the street from Notre Dame -- it might have been the location but the chocolat was heavenly. :)

How timely! We happen to have a hot chocolate machine at my work place today (it was getting repaired) and despite temperatures in the 60s, I'm on my fourth cup because I can't turn down free hot chocolate!!
