Can you believe this?

Every morning, Retro & I wake up to the morning news.  This story is what we woke up to this morning.

A {local} couple faces murder and cruelty-to-children charges after medical crews found their 2-year-old son starved to death inside their home.

23-year-old Sade Shamon King and 25-year-old William Thomas Davis III are in the {local}County Jail without bond.

Investigators and neighbors say there are many unanswered questions about why D'Shawn Davis was isolated and neglected for nearly a year inside his Tiffany Place home.

Mrs. Smith, a neighbor, says she was shocked when the couple who lived next door were arrested Tuesday and accused of starving their son.

"Believe it or not. There's food in the back for the animals," she says, pointing to two healthy-looking pit bulls in the couple's backyard.

"The lady that lived here was very quiet, was very private," Smith says. "Her fiance did a lot of the talking. Seemed like a very nice man."

Smith says she hadn't seen the infant since the couple moved in nearly two years ago.

Police say they discovered the dead child when King called 911 Saturday and said her son wasn't breathing.

Medics say they found the boy dead on her bedroom floor, clearly malnourished. He weighed 12 pounds, 6 six ounces.

Following a news conference Tuesday, investigators showed graphic pictures of the emaciated child, but asked media not to use them. They say the child hadn't received any medical attention in the past ten months.

"It turned my stomach--some of the pictures I saw of how the child was treated," said Sheriff, during the news conference.

The pictures show the boy's skin was raw in some parts--from laying in his own filth, according to investigators.

The Sheriff's Office says King was unemployed, a stay-at-home mom. It says Davis told them he worked long hours and didn't know the child's condition.

The couple's 5-year-old daughter also lived in the home but seemed in good health, it says. The girl is living with a grandmother now.

Capt. , with the juvenile division of the Sheriff's Office, called it "the most egregious case of neglect" he's seen in 37 years on the job.

Investigators say they don't think drug use played a role and wouldn't comment on the parents' mental condition. They say it could be weeks before the case is wrapped up.

But they and Smith are both looking for answers.

"They can feed their dogs, but they can't feed a child," Smith says incredulously.

I can't for the life of me understand what was going through these people's minds.  I know most of you are mothers & have the same reaction as me.

The father said he worked a lot & really wasn't aware of what was going on.  Bull crap.  Have you not seen your son in 2 years?  He knew what was going on & it was probably his freaking idea.  My thoughts are that this child was handicapped in some way & thus did not deserve to be treated as a human being.

Do these people not know they can drop the child off at a hospital, police station or fire station with no questions asked?  They are plenty of people willingly to feed & care for this child regardless of what's wrong with him.

What really pisses me off & I love animals (I have 6 pets), but they had healthy dogs in the backyard with bowls full of dog food.  And what about the sister?  I'm sure she's scarred for life.  My 5-yr-old makes "grilled" cheese sandwiches (in the microwave) for his little sister twice all the time.  I just can't imagine what was going on in that house.  They took better care of their yard than of their child.

They will be cared for better in jail than they cared for their own flesh & blood.

Disgusting, absolutely disgusting. 12 pounds at two? My kid was almost 10 at birth. What are people thinking when they do this to their kids?! I am with you, some type of handicap and they didn't want to deal with it. So sad.

Oh my gawd...that just turned my stomach. I'm literally reading this while my child is refusing his lunch...the irony. I'm trying to stuff food down my kids throat because I'm afraid he's hungry, while there are others out there that are purposely letting it happen? Outrageous!

I say eye for an eye. Let's watch them be starved to death in jail. That should be a fitting punishment.

What gets me is why the other was given to a grandparent. They obviously had no concern either. My childs grandparents would not allow this so for the life of me I don't understand how somebody did not know. It is so sad.

Makes me wonder if the boy was really his child. In my line of work, I see alot of mothers shun one kid because of who the daddy is. Like it's the kid's fault. Sickening.

This is heartbreaking, disgusting and just soooo sad. These people don't deserve to have EVER been parents. That poor little girl is definitely going to have a lot to deal with for awhile.

I just don't understand.

thats awful! People kill me with the way they treat their children these days! Im with you, someone somewhere would have taken him in and cared for him!

I would imagine your theory isn't too far off. How heartbreaking, for both children, because that sister is probably very confused and scared. Gosh, this just breaks my heart!

Last night my husband and I saw a commercial for abused animals rescue. We always comment that who could ever abuse an animal? They're so helpless, but your own child? it's not even something I can imagine! Babies and animals are so reliant on us, and you'd have to be heartless to deny your baby food, or any human really! That little boy is with Jesus now, and no longer suffering. Hopefully the parents will be punished accordingly.

That is soo unbelievably sad. There must be some sort of mental deficiency somewhere, mothers are meant to have strong emotions regarding the welfare of their children. I get guilty if I let mine watch too much TV!!!

This never should have happened...

Oh my word!! I have tears welled up in my eyes after reading this. That poor little boy. I can't help but think of how he must have suffered and he's too young to understand any of it or to ask anyone for help. I can't imagine why his sister didn't help him. My big twins are always helping the little twins get snacks and such...it makes no sense. Then again, it's not her responsibility...she might not have even had a clue. But yeah she's seriously screwed up for life now. Can you imagine the burden she'll feel for the rest of her life? The guilt?

I hope those parents spend the rest of their life in jail (and I hope they miss a few meals and get to endure the suffering of starvation).

I'm seething with vile words that could come right now. Instead I'll have to say a prayer that the sibling finds a happier life and the couple get shanked in jail. Awful

There are no words ... Mr. G and I have not yet been blessed with a child ... we are looking into adopting and surogate ~ it breaks my heart that NO ONE ... noticed this little boy's suffering nor LACK of his presence ... the neighbours that knew a baby existed and had not seen him for a year .. you would think that after a a couple of weeks questions would have been asked. What about relatives? grandparents??

There are so many couples (and single people) wanting to care for a child(s)` the system needs to work alot better. HHL

This is an awful story. Perhaps they fed the dogs because they were scared of them but that poor boy was defenseless.

I am in tears! That is horrible and inconceivable. I hope they die a miserable death before they rot in hell.

Such a sad story. It just breaks my heart that there really are people in the world that treat their own flesh and blood this way.

That's deplorable! I'm speechless as to the level of cruelty it involves to treat your child that way!

Worked a lot and wasn't aware what was going on???? umm...bullshit!

I cannot even imagine!!! Some people are sick. You wonder why people like that ever have children in the first place. Love & blessings from NC!

That is bizarre, and horrifying, and so, so sad.

OMG, that's the most vile, horrible story.
I always say that I can't imagine how you neglect a child..it's just in my chemical makeup. ANd if this mom was suffering from PPD or something else, that is when your husband etc, sees that and gets both of them help.

this story is just sickening....I hope they both spend a lot of time in jail thinking about what they did.
OMG.

I just can't imagine what that boy was feeling. Makes me want to punch something (preferably the two idiot parents). Sad.

What's worse, is that a couple of years ago, they lost another child to asphyxiation due to the baby sleeping with the mother. Obviously there was alot of INSTABILITY in this home!

It's horrifying what happens to children. I have no ability to understand why someone would bother to go through having a child just treat the child like that.

Each time I hear something like this I wonder why some women can sprout children non-stop and some women can't have children at all.

I say....roast the parents in the townhall square! The little boy is safe in God's hands now and will never be hungry or neglected again. The little girl is scarred for life...bless her precious little heart.

That's really horrific. It's a shame those neighbors weren't able to figure things out before it was too late.

Our nephew is 17 pounds at 4 months old. What a HORRIFIC story! But what was the last doctor thinking that saw him 10 months ago? Perhaps this is a recent development. That is so sad; I can't stand it.

It is hard to forget about a story like that. Makes me sick and the thoughts of that baby being mistreated - cannot comprehend it. xoxo

Their daughter should not be staying with any relatives.

This is terrible!
