5 Seconds of Fame

I was on the radio this morning.  And not just the local radio, XM Radio!  The Big D & Bubba Show on XM11 to be exact.

I listen to them while I'm taking Sass & Bo to school in the morning & sometimes they ask questions for listeners to call in & answer/comment/whatever.  And because I'm a nerd, I've called in a few times, but never gotten through.

This morning they were talking about finding something interesting or of value in a house you've lived in.  And since I had a great story, I tried again.  This time I got through!

So here's my story...The house I grew up in was built in the 1800s & in one of the closets, there was like a secret passageway.  In the ceiling was a cut-out with a cover you had to lift & push out of the way. It lead to a ladder which lead into an empty room.  My daddy said it was just an attic, but I used to pretend it was all kind of stuff.

This house was pretty cool.  When my parents were doing some remodeling, the found a letter inside a wall dated in the 1800s (they still have it) & on one of the window panes in the dining room names & dates were etched into the glass.  We would still have that but one day my brother & I were fighting & he broke it.  And guess who got blamed? Me.  Not for breaking it, but for making him do it. I digress. I've always said, one day I'm going to buy it back & renovate it.  Maybe I'll make Retro do that for one of the girls.

So, have any of you ever found anything cool or of value in a house you've lived in?

My dad found an old flute in our attic. Don't think it was of value, but he thought it was!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Big D and Bubba--I listen to them in the mornings too.

I once found a letter with pics of the family who had built the house I lived in....it said how much they loved the house, it told the history.....it was so cool, not worth money but still priceless

In the first house we ever owned we found all of these old quilts that were hand sewn. I still have all of them. Most of them were in pretty bad condition, but one is useable. I used it all the time with the babies as a pallet on the floor.

And we have the show syndicated here on the local station, but I don't listen to it. :( I just kinda like to listen to local radio.

Wow, congratulations on your fame! That house and room sound awesome!

I've never found anything valuable...it'd be pretty much impossible because my parents built their house, and the house we live in only had one other owner for 3 years before us.

That is so cool and fun that you were on the radio! So interesting about the secret passage way in the house! Who knows what that was used for! My high school had secret tunnels in it!

How cool that you were on the radio!!

The whole secret passageway sounds kind of creepy!! I remember as a little girl being scared of the attic...but I was a huge wimp anyway so it was probably just me!

Why am I not surprised that you call into the Big D and Bubba show? You are such a nerd. LOL

Cool! My husband's secretary is also a DJ at the biggest radio station in MN, and is always giving us shout outs on the air and letting us talk. It makes me feel all famous and stuff.
Cool sounding house!

I once won hockey tickets on the radio for being the 10th caller. It rocked.

Nothing cool in any of our houses. One house had "let the people go" written on the ceiling of our bedroom. That was weird.

I tried called in to my local station once, it was exciting but I did not get through....as for the house find...hmm, our old house was a Victorian house and when we remodelled we tore up the floors and found dog remains with an old Vic doll....very gross but sweet at the same time.

I've found lots of stuff in this house we just bought. Unfortunately, it's a lot of garbage - they took all the good stuff with them!

My dad found a very old (like 150 years or something) fiddle in the attic of a house. I've never found anything. I have been on the radio several times though, I always call in!
