The Cell Phone Saga

I interrupt this episode to bring you my current rant.

Yesterday, I left the children with Retro most of the day. I didn't feel like taking the 2 littles to church (I know, I'm a bad mother. Call DFACS) & I had a wedding shower that afternoon.

Here's the rant: He was able to lay around & watch TV the entire time I was gone. The children didn't bother him a bit. What the French Toast? When I'm at home with them, I could be on my deathbed & they wouldn't give me a moment's peace! I can't even write this post without being interrupted & only the baby is at home.

So not fair.

Now back to my regularly scheduled daily drama. If you remember last week, my POS, antiqated, SouthernLinc cell phone died & I was hoping for a SmartPhone from a company like Verizon or AT&T.

You those commercials where they fight over whose got the best coverage? And show maps like this-

Now let's look at SouthernLinc's coverage area-

Really, all that green is where they don't have service.  I can't even use the phone in my yard!

Needless to say, I'm not a big fan of my cellphone provider.  Luckily, my OnStar has a phone.  But heaven forbid I have to call somebody because that stupid computer chic can't understand a word I say.  I have to repeat myself everytime. Lord knows if there is any background noise (i.e. children) I might as well forget about making that call at all.

However, the disalutional people that pay the bill (hubs & my FIL) think SL is the greatest thing since sliced bread because 10 years ago they couldn't get good service in BFE, where we live, with what was then Cellular One. Imagine.

Anyramble...

I got a new phone!!!

Another SouthernLinc.  But this one's got a camera!!! Woo-Hoo! I have no idea how to get the pictures off the camera, so not a big asset for me.  And it still has the 2-way radio, which I hate with a passion, but there's no way around that, so I'll just have to deal.  And die of embrassment when I'm in Target or even better, the doctor's office & my purse yells "What are you doing?" "Where are you at?"

The only positive part about this whole post is that while I was trying to get that picture of my current phone, I couldn't help but notice that SouthernLinc has the Blackberry Curve.

Now all I have to do is convince Retro as to why a stay at home mother needs a SmartPhone.  Ideas?

Oh & SouthernLinc people, if you are reading this, I will be glad to resend all remarks for that Blackberry, even with the 2-way.

On another note, I need a fabulous theme party idea for next month's Bunko, I'm hosting & running out of ideas! Any suggestions?

I almost forgot. How do y'all like my flavicon(the little thingy beside my web address), courtesy of Domestic Deliquent.

Hilarious! Love the "What the French Toast?!" line. Reminds me of the one-liners from Tamara from Housewives OC. I'm a SAHM with an iphone and love it. Several weeks ago I was out and was able to video my lil' ones first crawling and email the video directly to my out of town husband. Pretty cool! As for bunco, here are a few sites I've used in the past...

One of my fav commercials, also "who are you calling a cootie queen you link licker!"

Anyway, I have Curve and LOVE it. It's frustrating at first..I yelled at mine for 10 minutes figuring out how to send a text..but I couldn't live without it. Tell him it will help with the blog? I can email everyone back from my phone as soon as I get it usually. It emails me when I get comments or emails and I really like that. You do have to pay (with Verizon anyway) 29.99/mth extra just for the data package it requires but I think it's worth it.

Your Flavicon is PRECIOUS! Your blog is just the hottest around. Theme party?? Month of April? Well what about something about Diamonds since that's the birthstone for April! Diamonds are a Bunco Girl's Best Friend. Just a thought. Love ya!! xoxo
P.S. If it's not April, I'll have to rethink :-)

We had the same problem with our first cell phone provider finally we just ditched them.

I love your favicon, too cute

I have T-Mobile and cannot get service inside my house. In fact, the service actually stops about 2 miles from my house...argh!

One month when I hosted Bunco I made it into a pajama party. Everyone wore their cute pjs and we had so much fun, we did it every month for a year or so. Another perk -- you're ready for bed already, which was very convenient at our Drunko, eh Bunco games.

...and the Number 1 reason a SAHM needs a smartphone...

1) Because when you've locked yourself in your bathroom to get the only 15 minutes of peace and quiet you'll get until tomorrow afternoon comes, you can take your phone with you and catch up on ANYTHING...AND, its not as bulky as the laptop, and you don't have to make sure that your crapper has an outlet close by.

I don't know how it would work for bunco...er...drunko, but McKenna's birthday party theme was "Candy Land". I had a candy bar set up and it was wayyyyy cute. I bought all different sized jars (in the candle section) of Michael's (hobby store, if you don't have one) and filled them with all sorts of different candies. Guests filled up their own goodie bags with whatever they wanted. It was mostly cute. Nobody really took the candy. If you want pics, I'll email them to you!

I feel your pain on the phone thing. When my students made fun of my phone that still had a pull out antennae, my husband broke down and bought me a new one.

Okay, wait...I could hardly get past the part about you leaving the kids with Retro and they actually let him lay around and watch tv, so I kinda missed out on all the cell phone talk.

My kids do that too when Tim's watching them!! They'll run around the house destroying everything but leave him completely in peace to read a magazine or watch tv. Then I come home and the place is trashed and he's like, "They were SO well-behaved...I don't know why you're always stressed out".

Is it any wonder why you and I have to take anti-depressants and drink booze all the time?

If you have picture text you can text the pictures to your email and download them that way. That is what I do, anyway.

Girl, I had Southern Linc for about four years and COMPLAINED the whole time-I never had reliable service! My husband (then fiancee) finally gave into us switching to Alltel and then we were transferred to Verizon when they bought Alltel in South GA. LOVE LOVE LOVE it 1000% more! I strongly urge you to at least get a verizon prepaid phone. When your husband sees it's pretty reliable he might consider switching.

Hilarious story! I can relate on so many levels as a mom of young kids.

I started a blog that I think you might like too. It combines fashion and giving back to charities. Each week, I will give away 1 Lilly Pulitzer dress (this week it’s the Pink Adelson Shift from Spring 2010) to one lucky follower, who raises awareness of the blog's selected charity through various ways such as tweeting about it or commenting with an interesting fact. I am currently also giving away some great Lilly stationary items too. Please check out my blog at www.shop4charity.blogspot.com because doing good is chic!

This is too funny because you cannot imagine how many people e-mail me requesting ideas for bunko parties! Guess what, I've never played bunko and have no idea what it is. But with that said, I think I could still pull off a mean 'bunko party.' I would choose a color theme (for paper products) first; i.e., pink/green, light blue/brown, red/black...you get the picture. Then for the food, you could do a fondue bar, appetizers on sticks/forks/spoons bar, a candy bar--candy in jars with ribbon bows, or a pizza bar--frozen California Pizza Kitchen pizzas are always a big hit. Serve a signature beverage in addition to the usual sodas, beers, and wine.

Okay, here is why I love my Blackberry Curve.
I get my gmail on it. Which is great becasue I feel more up to date when I am away for the weekend or stuck in the carpool line or the doc office.
I am linked to google calender which is awesome becasue I can enter events on my home OR on the phone and they communicate to each other. I can set reminder, which I do all of the time. I can veiw my upcoming activities in agenda form which is like a to do list. NICE>
I am a chronic note taker. Just tid bits here and there> Ideas that hit me in the middle of the day when I don't have a scrap of paper. Blackberry notes! Voila!
I take a veiw pictures here and there. Blackberry wants you to have a memory card to take more than 15 I think. But I take a pic and email it to myself, then it is waiting for me on my home PC!
I am to texting, like sex is to a nympho.
Nobody likes a qwerty full keyboard like this girl right here!
You can cut and paste from contact list, to mail message, to text, to notes. Easy!
I can not go back, ever!
People ask me for info, and I say here, I'll email it to you, like my phone number!
Need I say more?
Oh and my kids play brick breaker on it and it keeps them quiet when I need them to be.

Hilarious!! My hubby even laughed at your maps!! You are too funny. My hubby says he feels for you with Onstar because when he tries to get a number on his cell phone with voice activation the background noise from the kiddos makes it impossible.

Tell him that using the SmartPhone to blog while you're out and about will free you up for more romantical adventures with him.
