My Favorite (Web)Things

Surprise! A big thanks to SSM for letting me go on Sabbatical AND come back. I needed a quick break to be a mom for a few weeks but heck, who can’t handle a ruptured ovarian cyst, bulging disk in the back, a stomach virus and 6th grade Science from hell and return with a smile on their face? That’s just what we do. We’re Moms and we rock. That is to say, we rock with assistance from things that come in bottles both big and small.

So, I’ve been working on finding some things that will make my life as a working mom easier and more productive. Turns out they are all web-based so can be used anytime, day or night. Thought I’d share some, so here goes:
1. www.alice.com. This is the place to go when you don’t want to go to Walmart. Bonus is that it’s a pleasant experience and it doesn’t smell bad. You buy “walmart” things like tin foil, laundry detergent, toiletries, etc. Yes, I did a big time price comparison and found that the prices on Alice are within $2 of Walmart AND the shipping is F-R-E-E. I’ve been using Alice for about a month and love it. Tell her I sent you. Tee-hee.
2. www.metromom.com When you need some inspiration to fire up your creativity and get-up-and-go, listen in to her free podcasts. She’s a get-it-done-quick gal with good advice on tackling big projects.
3. www.couponmom.com Whose husband is NOT talking about how much money is going out and not coming in? I’m back in the habit of routinely using coupons, but never do I walk around with a fistful of those little pieces of paper. Use this website to download coupons to your Kroger, Publix, CVS, etc. cards. They are effective within minutes and you simply scan your card at the register to get the savings. MUCH easier.
4. This has been the biggest life-changer. Find 15 minutes every single day for myself – preferably in the morning. No joke, I’m a much nicer person – and I’m big on being nice. For me, it’s time with my calendar, a pen and a short devotion. For you, it may be a dark room and a cool drink. Nobody will take care of Mom like Mom, so make it happen. Gather your thoughts, your wits and take charge of your day. You can do it and you’ll be glad you did.

Enjoy your day!
Kate

Great tips and those ruptured cysts suck. Of course, now I don't have them because those pesky ovaries are gone!

I keep meaning to finish my registration on Alice and place and order but it keeps getting pushed lower on my list. Not that I love WalMart or anything, but I do seem to frequent that place quite often.

I know CouponMom IRL! She's in the Sunday School class I used to attend. Great, great lady. Did you know her whole money-saving journey started because she saw so many ways to use coupons to get free food and she encouraged people to do it and give the free food to charities. Love that. Love her.

That coupon idea sounds interesting....I never remember to bring all those little scraps of paper to stores with me, but a card might just work! Off to go check that out.....

okay, so i clicked over to couponmom and I don't see how to put coupons on my little grocery store card... can you tell me how? with a 2yr and 3yr old in tow on shopping trips, the last thing on my mind is those stupid scraps of paper that i have *torn* out because I have hidden all the scissors in the house to stop more hair cutting!
