Semi-Slackers Do Disney

Disney for the Semi-Slacker was a real treat. No one got hurt, beaten or fell off the deep end!

For the last 2 hours of the trip (I took us about 5.5 hrs) Sass complained (imagine that) about how long it was taking, but sure enough, the moment we get into Orlando she falls asleep. We had to wake her up at the hotel.

We stayed at Bay Lake Tower Villas at the Contemporary & it was referred to as our hotel, out apartment, our condo, the pool & home during the duration of the trip.

We loved Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party even though it was "hot as blue blazes". Next time (in 10 yrs), I'm going to dress like a hula dancer or something. No matter how many people I gross out. Because rest assured, I won't be the only one!

The children got tons of candy, I mean TONS. And the good kind! They don't get that much on Halloween night. I even saw adults filling up bags. At first I thought that was tacky, but the more I think about it, they did pay $50 to get in. So whatever! I just ate my children's candy.

We were able to ride all the rides with minimal wait time (5 min or less), which Bo loved! After we rented a double stroller for 5 days, he informed us that he "didn't come here to ride in a stroller", so Sass happily took his place. There was also minimal wait to see to the characters, which Sass enjoyed because she was all about the autographs (she had a meltdown because Chip signed her book twice!) & she has the patience of her father not Job.

Saturday, Aunt Crissy & Phillip joined us for breakfast at the Crystal Palace with Pooh & crew. Pooh just doesn't say Disney to me, so I just made that reservation because I needed a table service that day & it ended up being the best.

My thoughts on the food at Disney - it stinks (to be polite). Aside from the nice breakfast buffet with Pooh, the only other good meals I have ever had are at California Grill & Cinderella's Royal Table (breakfast). And I consider myself to be a "foodie".

In a past post, I have discussed the dinner food in Norway (Princess Storybook). And now it has been determined that we will never eat breakfast there again either. Retro showed his "you know what" in front of Sleeping Beauty. It also didn't help that we had to wait 45 minutes for a 10:30 reservation & one of the "cast members" was a Gator fan. And started in on the Dawgs while we waited to see Belle. Even I wanted to slap him & I don't take football nowhere near as personal as R.

Bo had a blast riding all the rides at Disney. The child wouldn't go near a character, even wearing his visor gansta style (what's up with that), but he rode every ride he is tall enough for! He was so upset that he couldn't ride the Abominable Snowman ride (Expedition Everest) that the girl gave him a special fast pass for the whole family to ride when he comes back tall enough (that won't be a problem)!

He loved watching Daddy, Sass, Crissy & Phillip come down the hill! He couldn't ride Space Mountain (closed) or Mission Space @ Epcot either. The only ride that he rode & didn't come out saying how awesome it was was the Tower of Terror (the Elevator ride) @ Hollywood Studios. Apparently, they show a scene where a family gets electrocuted & disappears. Well, he thinks they "got killed" & had nightmares about it for 3 nights. Word to the wise.

Let me just go on the record & say that Epcot is not this Semi-Slacker Momma's favorite place. I did like Nemo, that's all. Oh & Disney World has waaaayyyy too many ice cream vendors. And Bo noticed every one of them. Seriously.

After a lovely day at Epcot, we joined Crissy & Phillip (who managed to avoid Epcot that day) at Joe's Crab Shack for dinner. The children played on the playground & Retro talked football with an Arkansas (I think) fan & I enjoyed one of Joe's signature cocktails, Shark Bite for 2. It was the midpoint of the trip & I needed refueling.

With the exception of the guy at Hollywood Studios that "I had to blast out of the water" (long story), I managed to keep my cool & even had some Xanax to bring home. :) So I am considering our 2009 Family Vacation a success. Especially since it's over!

But I'm still going to have to think long & hard about taking them skiing this winter. Even if they do have $500 worth of ski gear that they didn't get to wear last year.

Great pictures! I bet a lot of people asked you where you got your shirts for the girls. How cute!

We had more fun at Epcot when the girls got older or with no kids at all. They did like Soarin' though...did you go on that ride?

When they were younger I kept them mostly at Magic Kingdom. Epcot really isn't meant for the little ones I don't think.

Did you go to Animal Kingdom? I thought they had the best food and I agree that the food is not the greatest at the parks.

It looks like you had a really great time...glad you made it home in one piece - Beautiful family memories!

I forgot to mention, that I was like Bo. No characters for me. They ruined my first time at Disney when I was a kid. Scary!

Glad the trip was a success!

I don't really like Epcot either and I detest the food at Disney, especially the Epcot Princess dinner--seriously, who wants to eat food from Norway? I think they should turn it into a Paula Deen buffet. Now that's something I would enjoy!

Glad the trip went so well with only a few minor infractions. I love that there was no line waiting- that makes the whole trip worthwhile! I'm a little surprised about the food, but I guess I shouldn't be. Glad you had a good time with enough Xanax leftover for Christmas!

Sounds like fun. I truly think Disney World is one of the happiest places on earth. We were thinking of staying at the Bay Lake Tower. So you give it a "thumbs up"??
