The Oh-my-goodness-it's-Wednesday-and-school-is-starting Challenge

Hello again! Thank you to the SSM for inviting me back to contribute! You guys were such fun with my first posting of the Tools of the Semi-Mannerly Mom, so I'll be back every other Wednesday to offer what value I can to the world of moms. Here goes Round 1!

If your house is anything like mine, the tension is building. School is about to start and the anticipation of the rat race is tangible. And that means we are barely nice to each other. Yep, even in the Everyday Etiquette (that's the name of my children's etiquette programs and my blog) home, things can get, how shall I put this....nasty.

So, in the spirit of the ole "can't we all just get along" way of doing things, today is the OH-MY-GOODNESS-IT'S-WEDNESDAY-AND-SCHOOL-IS-STARTING CHALLENGE!!! Here's how it goes: you are to perform one random act of kindness for someone you do not know today. That's it. Just be nice to someone. It may sound like no big deal to you, but for me...well...I have already had a round with my 8-year old over the canned cinnamon rolls I burned on the top and left raw in the middle that he refuses to eat (imagine that) so I'm on shaky ground and it's not even 8:30 am. Post your acts of kindness back to me on this blog today. Tomorrow, I'll announce the winner and their act. AND, the winner will receive a new momAgenda! Yay-hoo! How will I decide the winner? Whatever act warms my heart the most.

Final instructions: True acts of kindness are done with no regard to the benefit of oneself, they are performed with descretion and they are from the heart. Any acts submitted that do not fit the bill are out of the running. You won't believe how this will change the course of your day.

So, go be nice. NOW! tee-hee

Great challenge! I can see the tension on the face of moms every where! The kids are driving moms crazy and the thought of getting back into the school mode is overwhelming. I'm doing a free teleclass on this subject: September 3!

Be nice to Mommies! It'll change their day and yours.

What a wonderful idea.

Today I helped a little old woman (recently widowed) fill out her recently deceased husbands life insurance claims paperwork... but most of all... i listened to her, i let her cry, and i offered her some support, a hug and a little kindness.

(I love my job, but even more than that, I love the people I encounter while working here)

Yay for Random Acts Of Kindness!

I know them, but I did make a blackberry cobbler for the guys working on my house.

Hmmm, I didn't leave the house today but while I was outside watering our garden, I saw the UPS guy trying to deliver a package to our neighbor's house (they are away on vacation) so I told the UPS guy I'd sign for it and keep it here until the neighbors return, rather than them having to go to the local UPS office to pick it up when they get back. I'm not sure that's a really great random act of kindness but it's the best I got today :-)

Okay, that was fun! Today I pd our daycare lady extra, just for a "tip" for being great and sent my hubs on a bike ride while i ran an errand, so he'd have some time to himself. Feels good!

Earlier this evening I was at the grocery store. The lady in front of me at the check out had two small children and was wearing a uniform from a fast food chain. She was digging in her purse trying to come up with enough money to pay for her purchase which wasn't much. About the time I noticed this she said to the cashier "I'm sorry I don't have enough." For once in what seems like a long time I had actual cash on me. It felt pretty good to step forward. I handed the cashier a $20. The mom just looked at me. I said "Don't worry about it just have a good day." The funny thing was as I was walking to my car my daughter was asking "What happened?" I told her it wasn't anything just a mom looking out for another mom. Secretly I enjoyed the feeling it gave me. I haven't even shared this with my husband and yet I will post it on the internet. Don't figure.

I would love to eat your raw in the middle cinnamon roll goodness!

I think Mommyfried should win!
