Why is it that every time we buy groceries, my children have to open & taste test EVERYTHING, as soon as they come in the door!
Yesterday, after Retro brought in the groceries, the Semi-Slacker children ate 4 pop tarts, 6 strawberries, 2 bananas, 4 handfuls of pretzels, 4 mini candy bars (that I even hid), 1 honey bun and some chips! Maybe this is why the people at our local grocery store know my children by name.
I couldn't get the stuff put as fast enough. It probably has nothing to do with the fact that my house is in COMPLETE disarray. The home improvement project has been expanded to include painting EVERY room in the house!!!

What's the status on the housekeeper? And, thanks for reminding me that I have a grocery store trip planned in my immediate future, too!
What?! Yours actually waits until you get home? Macy has to have something from the store to eat on the way home! hahahahaha Ahhhh, kids.
Thats smart doing the house all at once. One big mess that will be over with soon rather than a bunch of little messes for a year. It will be a distant memory soon! (I hope!)
My brother is 17 and still does stuff like that! Right at this very moment he is biting an aluminum can...sometimes the dog even looks at him like he is a barbarian.
Um..I don't think I've been to the grocery store in about two months!!!
Yummy! I would love to be in on your grocery shopping days! hehe Of course, I would weight 400 pounds! ;-) xoxo
oh my god! the hubby and i argue about this all the time!! he complains that if he doesn't eat everything as soon as it comes in the house he won't get any. and it's true!! whether it's a handful of snacks, yogurt, fruit...it's opened, taste tested and then gone by tomorrow. i actually give each child a bowl into which i ration portions for them to make sure everyone gets strawberries and grapes!!
Oh, it's not just yours - my mom complains that we do the same thing to her. And I'm old enough to know better...
My child is too young to do this yet, but my hubby does! He alwasys stands in the way, opening boxes without even taking them out of the bag and eating while I"m unpacking. Frustrating!
I'm a hardass... they can open ONE thing when I get home!!!
It is not just your children. Mine are still too young, but Mini #1 is starting to do the same thing and Mr. is even worse.
Think of what your house will be like when all of your projects are finished...Keep that thought up! :)
At least it's your kids opening and tasting. At our house, it's ME--hence my immediate need to lose mucho l.b's!
I'm glad this happens to more people than just me. That's why I like to shop during the day at lunch then put the groceries away before anyone else gets home. :) XOXO
Nope, happens here too. That's the one reason why I am happy school starts tomorrow- I can grocery shop while my daughter is as school & get it all put away before 2:30!
The teacher's gift is a fabulous idea!
Uh, yeah...we just got done painting every single room in our house. It sucked but the house looks awesome!!! You'll be happy you did it (when it's all over, of course!)
My kids are the same way if it makes you feel any better, although they start opening stuff right as it's still in the bags in the mini-van. If I'm lucky to avoid having to take them shopping with me, they always come out to see what I bought. They don't help bring in the groceries...they just rummage through the bags until they find something sweet enough for consumption and then they're back to their regularly scheduled programs.
Eating machines!
Mine want to open everything in the store!! When they are back at school...I don't know what I am going to do at the grocery store(solo mission).... what a luxury!
xxx me
My son does the exact same thing! It just drives me crazy - especially after seeing the total grocery bill!
They must taste it so that the box will be open allowing the food to go stale requiring someone to be offended which will cause the food to be thrown out so that you can go and shop for groceries.
That's how the game is played over here.
The only problem here is buying the "kind of cereal" my daughter wants and then it goes stale because she's here only on the weekends!! The grapes are still intact tho'!
They must be growing! :)
Sorry to hear that the home improvement is so disruptive...I hear it can be pretty crazy!!!
Hopped over here from Wife.Mom.Nurse. Love your title and figured you have a sense of humor I'd like to read. Turns out I was right! Whew- I need to be right at least once a day or my self-esteem goes to pot. Wait, no I didn't say pot did I? Sorry- no I DO NOT smoke pot! Maybe I should say my self-esteem goes down the toilet with everything else my children decide to try to flush. OK, enough rambling. Hi, I'm your new follower!
Girl - Sofia can not even wait till we are home! If I can make it out of the store then she is opening something in the car!
I get, "when we get in the car, could we maybe have some of those...?"
