I'm at the beach!

Originally posted on 8/5/08

See, only a semi-slacker mom drinks a wine cooler on the beach w/ her kids!!!

(Ya'll know I'm totally over that! Now I think only Michelle Dugger doesn't drink on the beach with her kids!)

I love the beach. It makes me sad to think I only get to go to the beach once a year. One day, that's going to change. One day...

For the past 3 years, the children & I have been going to St. George Island, FL w/ my parents, my mom's 1st cousin (who is like her sis) & her hubby & their daughter & her son. Got all that?

We rent a big beach house on the island that has 4 bedrooms & baths, a big kitchen, dining & living room combo & a pool. It's on this little canal-thing, so we have a boat dock too. The kids love the beach & the ocean, but the pool is a lifesaver! The island mostly just beach houses & w/ small kids we don't go out much. We do go out to eat 1 night at this place in Apalachicola called Poppa Joe's. Yummiest bay scallops ever!

Hubby can't go b/c of peaches (how convenient), but my cousin is divorced so it works out pretty good. The only men are the granddads & they spend half their time on the boat. Wonder why?

The kids play great together. Bo idolizes Jake! He has no siblings so he eats it up! This year when it was time to go, Jake wanted to take Bo home w/ him.

Here's a few of my favorite shots from this year's trip to St. George Island.
Baby Girl is ready for the beach, all decked out in GranAnn's sunhat!

Jake & his "beach brother & sister"

This has got to be my favorite picture of my children ever. I know you think, "You can only see their backs!". But to me, it perfectly illustrates the dynamics our our household. Baby Girl is always trying to "keep up" with her brother & sister. This picture makes me smile every time I see it.

I don't know why I do this to myself. Every year, like everybody else I know, I try to take a nice picture of my children on the beach. Every year, it's a major ordeal! This year Sassy did not want to cooperate. Well better luck next year!

Here's the whole crew (except me, I'm behind the camera- as usual) at Poppa Joe's. GranAnn, Wilsie, "Wynn", Pop, Babsy, Jake, Bo, Baby Girl & Sassy.

Bo just looked so "cool" in this one I couldn't resist! Thomas swim trunks & matching shades...too cool.

Your photos are beautiful - reminiscent of the professional photos my family had taken at the beach a few years back!

We spent the weekend at the beach - talking to artists at the Boardwalk Art Show - it's amazing how artists will talk to kids about their approaches to art.

We are fortunate enough to live in a beach town - don't think I can live too far away from moving water. I've tried and it doesn't bode well.

Thanks for sharing your summer vacation!

Ahhhh, we go there every year too! My parents are moving to Apalachicola and I can't wait to visit them very often! I LOVE the oysters at Poppa Joe's That Place on 98 - have you been there?! Your pictures look so much like our vacation on St. George's! Check it out at http://jenniferdtrent.blogspot.com/2009/05/apalachicola.html

St. George Island looks like such a beautiful place! Some of my most precious memories of trips to the beach were with my "whole family." The children love time spent with Grandparents and cousins!! Love the picture of the children's backs walking down to the beach. It is so sweet! Your children are just so cute anyway. I can't imagine not having a great picture of any of them. Enjoy your wine coolers on the beach. You're on vacation!!! I hope you continue to have a great week. I wish I lived closer and had some of hubby's yummy peaches. Take care and soak up the rays while you are there! Love & blessings from NC!

I love the picture of your children on the sand/dunes area... the one where Sassy's looking at you with attitude and the others are busy... also love the picture of the kids' back... I love photos of children taken from behind.

As for the picture of you Miss Smirnoff Wine Cooler Chick... you're as red as a lobster... go get your screen on!

The pic with all the kids walking across the bridge with their backs facing the camera is the CUTEST! What an amazing photo - nice job. Sounds like you really enjoyed (and appreciated) your vacation. I hope you get to take many more like that.

I'm so glad we get to come to the beach with you.

The picture from behind needs to go in a frame. Just lovely!
