I need your input!

Should I let Sassy get her ears pierced?

Everybody else in her class has them.
And I told her she could get them done after she got her ears fixed.
She doesn't care how old anybody else was when they got their ears pierced.

What do ya'll think?

*BTW, I fixed my comment thing if you where having trouble!*

go for it...I have been holding back with my kids, and I am waiting for when they will understand the pain involved, and when they are capable of caring for them.

This story is so funny to me...I was in Kindergarten and my mom took me to get a new pair of tennis shoes. I wanted SOLID BLACK Reeboks...can you imagine? So we got home my daddy hated them!!! He said if I would take them back I could get my ears pierced!!! Haha...so I was like 5 or 6 when I got mine pierced...I say go for it!

Yes! My mom had mine pierced when I was a baby and I never objected, although somehow I have VERY lopsided holes in my ears. She waited until Lil sis was three and she was fine.

Sure, why not! I'm getting this baby's done when she's a few months old!

Yes, I had mine done when I was 5. It's so cute to see little girls in cute little studs!

I was seven and I am so thankful I had the courage to do it then. I could never get the guts to have it done now! (I have a huge fear of needles).

I say go for it!

I say go for it. My mom waited with me (but not my sister) and after waiting so long, I became scared of getting them pierced! I didn't get mine done until I was in 6th grade then...

I had mine done when I was 7 I think. I plan to let Reagan get hers pierced ONLY when she asks to do it and then AFTER she brings home a very good report card after asking. So, I guess I plan to not do it until she is at least in school! Then it will be a reward!

So far, she hasn't asked!

I shall be the NAY sayer here!

I was always told growing up that I could have then done when I was thirteen - that there was no reason for a child to have her ears pierced, it was an adult right of passage. I also wasn't allowed belly baring shirts or off the shoulder ones... hmm.

I got mine done for my 13th birthday, and it was so special for me. My friends all got me earrings for my birthday, and came along when I got them done. It was really sweet!

But, I suppose if you are okay with it - then it's okay. Does Sass understand that it will hurt, and that she has to take care of them? It's a big deal to take care of them properly when you first get them done so the holes heal properly and will be good for a long time...

I think this is such a minor issue that it's worth doing it just to get the eternal gratitude and brownie points with your kid.

I have one son who has had his ears done twice. And he owes me, so big.

How old is Sass again? My thinking on the ear piercing thing is that it's one of those "rites of passage." Whatever you feel comfortable with, I guess. Alise has been asking me lately if it hurts, but I don't think she's too the point that she's ready to do it and I'm kinda glad. Let us know what you decide!

I'm on the fence. On one hand, I think she is old enough, but on the other - does she understand the maintenance behind the it? I like the idea of it being a special thing when older but either way I think she is old enough. I asked Sofia over the weekend if she wanted to and she said, "Oh no, that will hurt too much"!

Sure, why not! I let my oldest get hers done around Sassy's age. She and another girl got them done right after her birthday party that year. The girls went to school and told the teacher that I had an ear piercing birthday party. That sure did raise a lot of eyebrows at school. Anyway, I vote yes!

It depends... if she really wants them, let her get them IF you know she can handle the maintenance. Rebecca has a few friends who let their ears get infected and therefore had to close up. Seems pointless to get them pierced if that is going to be the case. So sit down with Sass and have a good conversation about responsibility! The let her at it!

My rule is going to be when she can take care of them herself. Not sure what that age is, but that is what it is going to be. I would not want one more thing to have to take care of.

Love the picture of the two of them.

Thank you for the prayers for both Julie and I...

I let me daughter get her ears pierced when she was 8. If she agrees to clean and take care of them I say...YES!

Happy ATWT!

Go for it! I don't see a problem with it.

Get that SASSY girl's ears pierced. Or I will take her for you. Go for it!

Oh yeah...how about a little girl that takes swim lessons with Maddox...her name is Sara-Rhett. Too cute huh!

New to your blog but I will give you my 2 cents.

I say go for it. My youngest got hers at 3 when she asked continuously for 6 months. My older, more cautious daughter waited until 1st grade because she didn't want to until then. I think it is ok as long as they are sure they want them because they do have to clean and turn them, especially at first.

Go for it! you can always take them out, right? {wrong!}

Helene said...

If she really wants them, why not? You just have to be sure you check them everyday to make sure she's turning them (for the first few days). My sister let my niece get her ears pierced and she assumed my niece was taking care of her ears/earrings. But my niece wasn't turning them and her skin started to grow over the back of the earring...how gross, right?

I keep asking Bella if she wants to get ears pierced but she keeps saying she'll get back to me...I think she's afraid it might hurt.

Amy said...

No, cause then Meg will want hers done too!

I'm guessing it's too late, but here's my philosophy; kids grow up so fast, and society pushes them to be grownups way too soon. They should just be kids and know they are beautiful without "decorations." We made Kendall wait til she was 12 for pierced ears and 13 for mascara. She's 14 now and makes very conservative choices in makeup and earrings, so I'm happy. That said, I don't judge others who pierce earlier; I'm just happy we waited. It was like a rite of passage for her.

I got mine when I was 11 and my sister got hers when she was 9. Noone really had them done when I was younger until they were between 9-12.
